Bayburt is one of the smallest provinces of türkiye by means of surface area and population.It locates on çoruh valley that lays just in the sauth of East-Black Sea mountain chains.It is in the neighbourhood of Rize and Trabzon in the north,Erzurum in the east ,Erzincan in the south and Gümüshane ın the the west.The province has a surface area of 3652 km2.In the north and the east ,it is found a great omount of fossiles in some small regions below the south of Soganli Mountoins .The underground resources of the province are a mixture of silver,cupper,lead,zinc ores and lignite reserves.
45% of the total area of the province is coverd by mountains.The mountains seperating Bayburt from Blacksea ,from west to east are Zülfe (2750m) ,Kemer (2856)Soganli ,(2750),Haldizen(3000),Kirklar (3350m)Mountains and in the south are çavuskuran,(2850m)Kop(2600),Coşan(2963),Saruhan(2400m),Otlukbeli and (2520m),Pulur Mountains (2300m).Throwgh the se twe mountain chains flows the river of çoruh.
